Back on Track

We are back to normal again with our supply from the butcher...thank goodness. I plan to still feed some dried food to kittens which will be heading off to new homes eventually as I worry that new owners will be reluctant to feed a raw diet. It can be stressful for kittens to readjust to a new home and family without having a change of diet to deal with too. I may change my mind on this though...depending on the litter trays!

Tough Going

Got a bit of a problem since it is Turkey season ....we are running out of chicken....argghhhh it was going so well. Nevermind ..tins and dried food it is and would you believe it...the litter trays are vile again!

Still struggling to convert 2 cats over to raw but they do eat some now and then.

Amazing Results

Well we have been feeding Raw now for a month and the results are quite incredible. We no longer have any cats or kittens with soft stools....not even my "problem" cats. Please forgive my fascination with poo but the difference is amazing. Litter trays take no time to clean and no more stink! All this in just a month..

Its not all hearts and flowers though.....it is really messy and thank goodness I am not squeamish. I bought extra place mats rather than trying to keep the food in bowls and confine cats to easy to clean rooms. I feed adults twice a day and kittens 4 times which means I have to clean up and mop floors after every meal. I need to be organised to have chicken defrosted and I do worry about the risks of having raw chicken especially with my children who aren't keen to wash hands at the best of times!

All but 2 of my adults are converted completely but we will perserver.

Feeding a Raw Diet

I am planning to change the way I feed my cats and kittens and thought I would share my experiences.......

WHY?

Well...thats a good question. I normally feed Hills Science Plan to all but found that a few of my cats found it too rich. Litter trays are always messy and stink! Two of my girls have constant soft poos and my vet believes it to be diet related. I tried various other brands but found my cats didn't like to only eat "their" food and wet/tinned made everyone scour-yuk! I did some research and found a few site recommending a raw only diet so thought I would give it a go.

Getting Started

I started with a few chicken wings from the supermarket and tried my weaned kittens. The devoured every morsal with growling and dragging awy food which left me in hysterics. It took about an hour for it to be completely finished as we had regular breaks to hurtle round the furniture. This was followed by group face washing and contented snoozing.....a big success!

The Adults were abit wary but most tucked in.

I managed to persuade my local butcher to supply chicken carcasses and any other bits and pieces he could then bought a large chest freezer and a meat cleaver! This is not for the faint hearted and is very messy.I also have to remember to defrost enough for each meal.
